Frequently Asked Questions
Are animal products allowed?
No. We are the only 100% Plant-Based SIBO/IBS protocol. We do this because we see animal foods as a risky food to eat since animal products have been shown to be inflammatory, contaminated with pathogens, and contaminated with environmental toxins at a higher rate than any plant food.
Can I have unlimited portions of food?
We educate on mindfulness in all aspects of life, including when eating. The goal is not to portion control, but to instead: 1. Build a better meal/snack. 2. Eat until you are satisfied. 3. Eat while not being distracted. 4. Focus on eating organic whole foods.
Do I have to stick exactly to the meal suggestions?
In short, yes. We highly recommend you adhere strictly to the meal suggestion we have put forth using the recipes, and resources we have in the private group. Deviating from the program can cause unwanted symptoms making it more difficult to progress through the phases. Ultimately, you do not want to stay in Phase1 through Phase 4 for too long since you are not getting the most diversity possible.
Do I have to eat this way forever?
No. The goal of this program is to mindfully and tactfully increase the diversity of plant foods your body is able to digest. We do hope you stick to eating a conscious and clean diet forever, as many environmental and culinary practices can harm your gut health.
Is this program right for me if I have an eating disorder?
We recommend you proceed with extreme caution as this program was not designed for those with an eating disorder. If you have a history of an eating disorder or current eating disorder we would recommend you first make an appointment with one of our Registered Dietitians to see if this program is right for you.
What makes this program different?
Our program does not focus on restriction without a long term plan for your success. Our program educates on finding your root cause, not just providing quick fix diets, medications, or supplements. Our program takes your environment (home, work, neighborhood, etc) into consideration by helping you reduce exposure to hazardous toxins that are endocrine disrupting chemicals.
Why SIBO is still the tip of the iceberg.
Many underlying issues can lead to SIBO. You have to find out what they are and come up with a plan to fix the root causes. SIBO is not a cause, but a symptom.
Does this replace my doctor visits?
No. The YGC SIBO program (and future programs) are here to be an evidence based resource for your care team. We are another piece of the puzzle, but we do not replace the entire puzzle. We will even recommend you find other knowledgeable and caring health practitioners to work with on your journey of getting to your root causes.
Do I still need my Gastroenterologist?
Yes. We not only recommend you work with a Gastroenterologist, but you possibly may need to work with multiple providers to do the appropriate testing to find the root cause of your SIBO/IBS.
What testing should I have done before entering this protocol?
Ideally, you should have any and all testing done to rule our very serious Gastrointestinal issues like: Celiac Disease, Colon Cancer, Bowel Obstructions, and many more. A qualified GI doctor will able to rule out these serious diagnosis before coming to the diagnosis of SIBO.
Is this program Gluten Free?
Yes, this program is designed to incorporate gluten free whole foods while still providing nutrient rich whole grains later in the phases.
Is this a Low FODMAP diet?
No. A diet containing FODMAPs is essential to a healthy and robust gut microbiome. Avoiding FODMAPs will have short term benefits, but long-term detriments. We help you to eat and include more FODMAPs into your lifestyle to build a robust gut and nervous system.
If I am on a low FODMAP diet can I do this program?
Yes. This program was made for those suffering with undiagnosed SIBO who have been struggling on a low-FODMAP diet and stuck in a vicious cycle of medication and unhealthy dieting. It is time to stop running from your symptoms, and instead face them head on with the health of a knowledgeable team.
If I am on an elemental diet can I do this program?
Yes, it is possible to do this program as you are coming off of an elemental diet, but it does depend on comorbidities, medications, and past medical history. We highly recommend that you work with a skilled medical team and/or consult with someone from our team before purchasing.
How much does this program cost?
The program is 6 phases with meal suggestions and recipes for each phase of food reintroduction. You get access to our website with educational videos with your very own login as well as access to our private Facebook group where you can ask questions and join us for our many live educational videos. All of this for $197 for the first 6 weeks and $9.99 for every 4 weeks you stay with the community.
What is included in the program?
The program includes guidance through 6 phases designed to help you introduce SIBO/IBS healing foods back into your diet. Each phase will have a meal plan, dozens of recipes and you will have access to a private Facebook group where you can ask general questions to our expert team. We can also help you with what supplements to take in general or specific to helping you eliminate SIBO.
Does the program include 1:1 consultation / diagnosis?
You are welcome to schedule and in-person or telemedicine visit with our team at any point during and even before you start the program. We also highly recommend that if you are not working with us then you work with your care team (many times you will need both) as your care team can include: a Gastroenterologist, Endocrinologist, and Primary Physician that can order any necessary testing you may need.
How can you tell what the underlying problem is?
This is done using a combination of resources like working with this program and your care team.
What is the cost of the SIBO supplements?
We try to use supplements when absolutely necessary, but you may need them to help relocate the SIBO. These SIBO specific supplements would be $165.97.
Why are my symptoms getting worse?
If your symptoms are getting worse as you start on Phase 1, you may have other underlying sensitivities that you may or may not be aware of. This can require the use of supplements or medications to help you handle the symptoms while you add more food to your routine. If you pain/discomfort rises above a 7 on a 1 to 10 rating scale, then schedule a consultation.
How long will it take for me to be completely better?
The timeframe can vary due to so many factors at play: age, sex, activity level, past medical history, and much more. Typically, the time frame of symptom relief, but not complete restoration can be 1 month to 8 months.
Do I have to only eat the foods outlines in each phase?
You do not have to eat each specific recipe on each specific day, but careful attention must be given to not eating foods out of the phase unless otherwise told by a YGC team member.
How long can I stay in each phase?
The time spent in each phase will vary based on the severity of your symptoms. Typically you can stay in each phase for 1-3 weeks. It is a fine balance of challenging yourself so you can eat more and more food, while not feeling rushed.
What supplements should I take?
We have curated high quality supplements for you on our Fullscript account. Some are curated to help you overcome your overgrowth and some are there for long-term nutritional insurance. It is still very important to remember that food is your foundation to health, not supplements.
When do I take the supplements for SIBO?
We would recommend taking the herbal antibiotics in Phase 1 or Phase 2.
Is this program SOS free?
There is no added sugar and no added oil, but we do use small amounts of pink himilayan salt or other types of rock salt.
When should I schedule 1 on 1 time?
If you have comorbidities, are on multiple medications, have extensive past medical history, feel you have been following the program, but have many questions, then definitely schedule some one on one time.
When should I see my doctor?
You should see your doctor if your pain and discomfort level is consistently above a 7 or if you have bleeding of any kind. See your doctor to order more labs and see your doctor to let them know you are feeling great.
